What does an energy consultant do?

Energy Consulting is a service that works on behalf of clients to identify and ensure the best offers for gas, electricity and other forms of energy production. Although the role of an energy consultant has been traditionally identified as a service for companies, more consultants now accept residential customers. In both scenarios there are several basic duties that define the role of an energy consultant.

A typical energy consultant is primarily involved in helping the customer to understand different available energy possibilities, identifying options that provide the type and volume of the required energy, and then help the client to ensure this energy at the most effective price. This often means spending some time with the customer to assess his needs, then examine energy options and finally present the recommended options to the client.

In the initial energy evaluation, the energy consultant usually looks at the way the customer uses different energy sources. This may sometimes include the introduction of a new technology to a client that would allow the operation to use more than one energy source. For example, the consultant may find that the client could benefit from the hybrid electrical system, which used not only the power supply from the utility network, but also from the energy bank captured and stored by the solar energy system. With a little luck, the consultant not only identifies the strategies that help in energy savings, but also discover ways to reduce the cost of energy currently incurred to the customer.

The role of the energy consultant, however, goes beyond the mere examination of possible solutions and providing data to the client. Many consultants of this type also act as an energy broker. In this function, the consultant involves the supplier of the Energiens to negotiate the best possible unit prices for the customer. Depending on the amount of the body granted to the consultant could be immediately concluded an agreement with the seller or to introduce a customerand the seller in the last round of negotiations, until the establishment of a mutually acceptable service contract.

It is not uncommon for the energy consultant to supervise the installation of any new device concerning the implementation of new energy services. This makes it possible to ensure that the installation is carried out in accordance with the contract between the supplier and the consultant's customer and that adequate training and orientation is provided to those who actively administer the energy source at the end of the client.
