What is an internist?

Internists are doctors who often work as general practitioners, but also advanced training, which lasts from three to more years after the medical faculty, so they have become specially qualified in the treatment of diseases inside the body or relate to one or more body systems. Many internists decide to specialize in a specific system or body and there are internists who are cardiologists, gastroenterologists and others. Alternatively, they can train to work with people's population and can be practicing geriatric medicine or pediatricians. The big difference between a person who is simply called an internist and a cardiologist is that the internist will see people for regular medical care, not only for his specialties. Most internists who specialize in geriatric medical conditions related to age. They would see them for all conditions, including a string neck or ear infection. Similarly, an internist specializing in gastroenterology does not work with patients if they have troubleWith a gastrointestinal function, he worked with them when he had a case of pink eye, flu or bronchitis.

Many people prefer working with an internist because this doctor acts as a primary care doctor and , has special training. Anyone who has serious illnesses in one of the body systems may feel more comfortable to find a doctor who has specialized in this system and is also trained to treat common diseases. Of course, it is not always possible to find an internist specializing in the area people need. Others choose an internist as their primary physician, even if they do not have illnesses, which is especially a trained doctor for treatment.

It brings an interesting point. Although the internist may have sub-specialty, not all these doctors do. Some are only completing a three -year stay at the Faculty of Medicine in Internal Medicine.

As soon as this residence is successfully completed, doctors canSimply obtain certification if in the US, through the American Council for Internal Medicine. It is not necessary to take additional residences or scholarships in the field. The training already leads to strong expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of body systems and especially internal organs. Thanks to this further training outside of medical school, the internist is particularly attractive to some patients and most who have health coverage and have to choose a primary doctor can choose internists if they prefer.
