What is cum laude?

cum laude is an academic honor that means "with praise" in Latin. It is normally granted to students for graduation and is the lowest of the series of three Latin honors. These types of awards are most common in American universities, but can be found at schools of different levels around the world. A lot of what is needed to complete the study of CUM Laude depends on school policies - different institutions have different rules in terms of what exactly qualifies the student to get the price - but the average is almost always a determining factor.

hierarchy of Latin honors

Not all schools grant Latin honors, but those that usually adhere to the system of three different "levels" or "rows". Cum Laude comes first and is reserved for students who have shown a great knowledge during permanent studies. Another is magna cum laude , which means "with a great honor", followed by summa cum laude or "with the highest honor". It is a great -friendly to find any of these awardsEnding without the other two, because they usually cooperate as an evaluation system.

How to earn

There is no universal section or set of instructions that would precisely define what is needed to obtain Latin honor, and in fact the rules may differ tremendously from school to school. The valuation is sometimes automatically granted based on a class diameter or a cumulative point of grade, but it may also be something that students have to ask for graduation. In some schools, those who are interested in "praise" or higher graduation must complete special honors, pass trials for honors or participate in exclusive, usually more difficult seminars or classes.

There are also very few instructions on whether the school offers Latin awards at all. Most university institutions do this, but usually there is no reason to have. Some postgraduate schools, especially PRMedical and medical programs also have honors as a built -in evaluation system. It is rare to find high school level awards, but it can happen. Students who are interested in learning about graduation in their school should talk to members of the faculty or other academic leaders to obtain clarification and leadership.

Necholastic elements

Institutions may also require students to obtain letters from the faculty, advisors or peers to qualify. Community services and extracurricular activities can also take into account and it is not unheard of for students to write reflective essays or petitions, why they are particularly suitable for awards. In these cases, the panel or the Council of the Faculty and Administrators usually meet to determine who will be graduated with honors and in what rank.

price notification

As well as all Latin honors, CUM Laude's distinction is almost always announced in graduation or days leading to the ceremony. Honorees canWear special wings or cords over their clothes to separate them, and the honor is usually also announced when their names are read. The "cum laude" is usually also printed on a real diploma and it is common for a graduation to be recorded.

consequences outside the academic community

The honor and prestige of the price usually exceeds graduation. Students who earn it can, and often state it on their CVs and work applications. Potential employers often prefer people who have completed this honor, because the difference often speaks of the overall character of a person by referring them as someone who can reach a high level while equalizing many competitive requirements. Cum Laude can also enable a person to join honorary societies or elite professional groups in the future.
