What are flexible prostheses?

Flexible prostheses are considered to be a more comfortable and practical alternative to hard prostheses that can cause discomfort, especially when the shape of the gums changes with age. They combine prosthetic teeth with a soft nylon base that is able to adapt to the shape of the gums, even if it changes over time. They are considered to be more durable and able to offer a greater ability to chew. This type of prostheses is also usually more discreet, hygienic and faster than hard prostheses. Acrylic dentures are known to be rubbing on the gums and cause pain and discomfort. They often also require the adhesives to hold in place. They do not require any adhesive or other devices to attach them to the gumalplica. Since flexible is generally better suited than hard prostheses without causing discomfort, even difficult foods such as apples can allow patients to chew.

durable, translucent nylon is used to create a base FleXibile prostheses. Prosthetic teeth are built in them. Because the nylon base is translucent, prostheses mix with the natural color of the gums and are considered to be more discreet than traditional prostheses. Prosthetic teeth are usually designed to match the aesthetic selections of the dental patient. The nylon base is usually quite hard, and while the teeth can burst in certain conditions, the flexible nylon base is able to withstand coarse handling.

Unlike many hard prostheses, flexible prostheses are non -porous. They usually do not support the growth of bacteria, so they are considered more hygienic than hard prostheses.

Nylon dentures can be easier than their hard, acrylic counterparts. Generally, more adaptation adjustments are required in the production of acrylic prostheses. Prostheses made of flexible nylon base are often easier to customize and are easier to produce, so patients may find that prostheses made from a flexible base are made much faster than traditional forthe same.
