What Are the Different Types of Ear Trauma?

The pinna is exposed on both sides of the skull and is vulnerable to trauma. Common ear traumas include contusions, cuts, bites, lacerations, frostbite, and burns. Common causes of tympanic membrane trauma are ear-cutting (matchsticks, hairpins, needles, etc.) and sudden changes in pressure in the external auditory canal (such as artillery shocks, high diving, slapping, etc.). Temporal bone fractures are mostly caused by car accidents, falls, blows to the occipital or war injuries.

Ear trauma treatment principles

1. After contusion of the pinna, apply cold compresses within 24 hours. When the hematoma is large, puncture and blood should be punctured under strict disinfection and local pressure bandaging.
The laceration should be debrided and sutured early. Frostbite should protect the auricle, gradually rewarming, and rebuild blood circulation. The principle of treating burns is to control infection, prevent adhesions, and minimize deformities after healing.
2. After the tympanic membrane trauma, it is strictly forbidden to rinse and drip the external ear canal, forcefully blow the nose, and use antibiotics throughout the body to prevent infection. Tympanic membrane perforation can be repaired if it does not heal for a long time.
After 3.3 weeks, if the condition permits, it can be repaired with temporal muscle fascia. After the whole body condition is stable or improved, if there are surgical indications, tympanoplasty or facial nerve surgery is feasible.

Ear trauma medication principles

Ear trauma infections such as bacterial increase or decrease results should not be combined with anti-infective treatment before the results.
