What are the effects of elevated renin levels?

In human anatomy, elevated renin levels may lead to hypertension. Over time, an increase in blood pressure caused by high renin levels can lead to serious and sometimes life -threatening conditions. Normally, Renin is released to counteract the decrease in salt or blood volume. Renin is used to increase the blood volume that creates an increase in the pressure of the veins and arteries.

Some health conditions such as cirrhosis, Addison's disease and nephritic syndrome may also cause the body to produce more renin. It is also known that the kidney tumors produce significantly elevated renin levels. The patient showing increased renin should be tested for these conditions to treat the cause of excessive renin production and not only a symptom of high blood pressure.
