What does the number of white blood cells mean too numerous to calculate (TNTC)?

When a disease or other problem is suspected, the doctor will perform a complete blood count (CBC). This counts, among other things, blood components, white blood cells. This particular number is called white blood count (WBC) . WBC too numerous to count (TNTC) may indicate several disorders or diseases.

White blood cells are responsible for combat infection. It is produced in the bone marrow. When WBC is TNTC, it is suspected of infection or disease. These include monocytes, neutrophils, lymphocytes, basophils and eosinophils. When an infection or disease is present, the body floods the blood circulation of white blood cells in an effort to fight against the attacker. In order to help WBC in diagnosis, it must include differences in the number of each type of white blood cells.

neutrophils that make up most of the blood cells, about 56%, are one of the most important players in the fight against infection. They are referred to as "soldiers" who wage war on the front lines. Number of neutrophils will appear on WBC as absolute number nEutrophils (ANC) or Absolute number of granulocytes (AGC) . Anc or AGC TNTC is a reason for concern.

WBC TNTC is not always the cause of extreme concern. Increasing white blood cells can often indicate that the body responds to allergen or less infection. It can also indicate tissue injury, such as injury caused by heart attack, surgery or burns. Extreme emotional or physical stress can increase WBC, although this may not cause TNTC result. Some medicines, including corticosteroids, anti -antibiotic drugs, can also cause TNTC.

Thyroid gland problems, insufficiently active adrenal glands or removed spleen can also cause TNTC. One recent study has found that extremely high WBCs contribute to an increased risk of stroke and heart attack in women aged 50 to 79.
