What Is a Pyogenic Granuloma?
Pyogenic granuloma, also known as telangiectatic granuloma, is an acquired, benign nodular hyperplasia. Most of the new blood vessels form hemangio-like or papillary lesions after skin-penetrating trauma. It grows rapidly, easily bleeds and ulcers, and grows to a certain size and is still. Others believe that the disease is not related to infection.
Basic Information
- nickname
- Capillary dilated granulomas, polypoid capillary hemangiomas
- English name
- Pyogenic Granuloma
- Visiting department
- Dermatology, Stomatology
- Common locations
- Skin, oral mucosa, gums
- Common causes
- Related to trauma stimulation
- Common symptoms
- Round or slightly flat mung beans to cherry-sized papillary granulomas
Causes of purulent granuloma
- Pyogenic granuloma belongs to reactive neovascularization, which is related to trauma stimulus and causes inflammatory granulomatous reaction. It may also be related to local blood flow abnormalities.
Clinical manifestations of suppurative granuloma
- The basic damage is round or slightly flat mung beans to cherry-sized papillary granuloma, which grows rapidly for weeks or months before stopping. The skin lesions generally do not exceed 1cm, the surface is smooth and light red or dark red, soft and elastic, easy to bleed, no conscious symptoms, occasionally ulceration, erosion, exudation of a small amount of odorous pus, and after drying, it forms Brown pustules. Can occur at any age. Damage is often single or multiple. Occurs in areas of the body that are susceptible to trauma, such as small wounds on the fingers, arms, and head and face. It is also common in infants' umbilicus and occasionally in the oral mucosa. After slow, the granulation grows to a certain degree, that is, it no longer develops, and it is generally difficult to disappear by itself.
- Granuloma of pregnancy may be a variant of this disease, which often occurs in the mouth of pregnant women, especially the gums. After the primary purulent granulomatous lesion is damaged, multiple satellite foci occasionally form around it.
Pyogenic granuloma examination
- Histopathology: vascular and cell infiltrating lesions. Vascular hyperplasia can be seen in the dermis and subcutaneous tissue, and endothelial cells swell, similar to histiocytes or epithelial cells. Extensive infiltration of peripheral lymphocytes, histiocytes, and large amounts of eosinophils.
Diagnosis of pyogenic granuloma
- Easy diagnosis based on clinical manifestations and pathology.
Pyogenic granuloma treatment
- Surgical resection, dye laser treatment, carbon dioxide laser treatment, microwave treatment, etc.
