Clinical manifestations of birthmark
- It is mainly divided into nine types, including Mongolian spot, coffee spot, Ota nevus, pigment nevus, hair nevus, sebaceous nevus, capillary hemangioma, cavernous hemangioma, and erythema nevus.
- Erythematous nevus
- About one-third of newborns will have this birthmark. It is a small, reddish spotted rash that occurs mostly on the back of the neck, in the middle of the eyes, on the forehead, and on the eyelids. As children grow older, most will gradually disappear.
- 2.Mongolian spot
- This birthmark is flat and smooth, it is born at birth, and is usually found on the hips or waist. They are mostly light blue, or they may be blue-gray, blue-black. This birthmark looks like a bruise and is common in yellow races and usually disappears before school age.
- 3. Strawberry-like hemangioma (capillary hemangioma)
- This birthmark usually appears on the face, scalp, back or chest, and is mostly red or purple. Strawberry-like hemangioma usually develops a few weeks after birth and may not protrude from the skin or may be slightly softer strawberry-like masses than the skin. Although it does not disappear, it has no effect on health.
- 4. cavernous hemangioma
- It's like light blue sponge tissue filled with blood. It usually appears under the skin of the head or neck. If it grows deeper, the overlying skin looks no different and disappears before puberty.
- The above birthmarks generally do not require treatment.
- 5. Coffee spots
- Its color is like tan with milk added to the coffee. Such birthmarks are mostly oval in shape, appearing on the trunk, hips and legs. Gradually getting older and darker with age does not generally cause health problems. If several birthmarks larger than a coin appear at the same time, it is likely to be related to neurofibromas.
- 6. Congenital pigmented nevus
- About 1% of newborns will develop this mole. Its shape is irregular, with a small diameter of about a few millimeters and a large one that can invade the entire back, neck or entire limb. Such moles can develop into skin cancer and should be treated if they are large.
Birthmark Treatment
- If the birthmark is on obvious parts such as the face, hands and feet, it will be disturbing. Some people will have low self-esteem because of this. In particular, children are more likely to have inferiority or autism during their growth . According to research from European and American countries, birthmarks on the face can affect children's psychological development and become a personality problem in the future. At present, the main methods for treating birthmarks include pulse laser treatment, surgical treatment, cryotherapy, and carbon dioxide laser treatment.
