What is vergence?
Vergence is a simultaneous movement of both eyes in opposite directions to maintain a person's visual perception of the object. In principle, this means that the eyes move in the direction of the object and lock the center of the pupils. This keeps the object in line with the goal, allowing a person to maintain visual contact with him. In fact, there are two different forms of vergence, one that explains how the eyes work for nearby objects and the other for distances further.
The form of vergence, which deals with close objects, such as looking at the nose or small strand in hand is convergence. This is in extreme situations what is referred to as the vision of the Cross Eye. For example, if there is a small wooden spring in your hand, it must be removed closely. The closer that they get to the face, the eyes are moving more and more until they are both closest to the nose. To see the convergence action you are standing in front of the mirror, lean as far forward as possible and focus on the center of your nose. Eyes will turn inside as soon as possibleso that pupils' centers can focus on the desired point.
Divergence is the second form of vision that deals with objects that are further. An example of this type of vergence would be a bird flying from left to right in front of a person. To keep their eyes visual contact with the bird, the eyes will move in the same direction. In this case, however, the right eye would move out of the nose, while the left eye rotated to it. In this aspect, the eyes will remain in parallel with each other to focus on the bird. A good experiment that would see divergence in action would be to become a mirror and focus eyes to the place to the left or right. Vergence is essentially a form of vision that people use to maintain focus on any particular object or area.
