What is an addictive personality disorder?

The reasons remain unclear why one person becomes a substantive on a substance such as alcohol or heroin and why another will not be. Some doctors argue that some people have qualities that make them susceptible to the development of addiction. Others argue that a person cannot be described as an addictive personality disorder until a dependence develops on something. Others say that there is no addictive personality disorder. The addiction can be physical and psychological. When someone who has physical addiction stops using a medicine, stops smoking or stops drinking, it can go through withdrawal because her body has come to expect chemicals in the drug and cannot function normally without it. During physical addiction, one will need more and more substance to feel any effect.

Psychological addiction involves the emotional need and desire for a substance or emotional need to perform a habit such as shopping or gambling. Usually a person does everything he can to get drugs or perform behavior when he is addicted. Can lie or steal to obtain drugs or be able to gamble or shop if necessary.

People who believe that there is an addictive personality disorder, claims that the inability to control its behavior and the inability to delay satisfaction are common features of the disorder. A person with an addictive personality disorder does not know when to stop using something, be it drugs, sex or gambling, leading to addiction and addiction to this object. Depression, inability to cope with stress and desire to adapt, can also point to an addictive personality disorder.

Antisocial behavior is another feature that is assumed that it is associated with an addictive personality. Dependent can use a substance or engage in behavior to show that they differ from all others or as an act of rebellion. Addictor can feel isolated from those in his peers group and can use a substance or behavior as a wayto cope with insulation.

Some argue that addiction cannot be predicted, regardless of the characteristics that a person can expose. The same people believe that an addictive personality disorder develops only after a person becomes dependent on a substance or custom. Signs associated with addiction develop after dependence, as well as some other disorders or diseases can change someone's personality.
