What is adenoid hyperplasia?
Adenoid hyperplasia, also known as adenoid hypertrophy, refers to enlargement or swelling of the lymph glands at the top and back of the mouth called adenoids. Excessive adenoid growth may occur for several different reasons. Treatment usually depends on the severity of the condition and partly on its cause. Adenoids are small when the child is born, grows during childhood, achieves full size in late childhood or early adolescence and then begins to shrink again. Large adenoids are common and normal in childhood and many cases of adenoid hypertrophy disappear with age. Adenoid hyperplasia sometimes occurs when a child has recurrent infections, such as sinus infections, ear infections or strepe in the throat. Tear people increase to better fight infection, and may not be fully reduced again. If a child has many infections, the cumulative effect of this growth pattern may lead to sufficiently large adenoids to cause problems.

In the case of acute infections, adenoid hyperplasia is often concentrated with tonsillitis because swollen and inflamed almonds are easier to see than adenoids. Children who have had very enlarged adenoids for a long time can develop changes in voice and facial elements caused by constant breathing in the mouth.
Surgery is sometimes necessary for adenoid hyperplasia and was once a treatment for this condition.
