What is an endoscope?
Endoscope is a piece of medical equipment designed to inspect internal organs, use of tissue samples and remove patients with small cuts in the skin or open openings such as mouth or rectum. Flexible and rigid endoscopes use optical fiber technology to allow the surgeon to see inside the patient's body using a small, thin tube equipped with a light source and a small camera. The medical endoscope is also used to confirm the diagnosis when other tests may not be available or considered inappropriate for this condition. Flexible endoscope can be used to repair damaged joints such as knee, exposure problems with the reproductive system and mediation of information on the gastrointestinal tract. Other uses include the gallbladder removal, bladder or colon examination for cancer and even has a bee used to repair the health problems of the fetus during pregnancy. Endoscope can also be equipped with accessories that allows him to destroy small tumors oro bile stones.
Access is through a very small cut or existing opening, so surgery, involving endoscope, is considered to be minimally invasive and the recovery time is much shorter than surgery requiring a large cut. Patients are often observed outpatient and usually go home on the same day or within 24 hours, except for complications. Patients who require diagnostic testing with endoscope, such as colonoscopy, can generally return home after just a few hours.
As with all surgical or diagnostic procedures, risks should be considered. This includes reactions to anesthetic, perforation or rupture of organs such as stomach or large intestine and infections. It is important that the patient informs about his doctors he currently takes, any allergies he can have, and any health condition for which he is treated before the operation. What kind ofI or all these factors can affect even less surgery.
With the progressive technology comes the greater development of the endoscope and its use. The progress of robotic systems has led to the development of telesurgical radiation, where the doctor can perform a surgical or diagnostic procedure at the patient from another place. The capsule endoscopy happens when a very small camera enclosed in the capsule is introduced into the digestive system to capture images that are not available by other means. Endoscope is an important and useful tool in diagnostic and therapeutic situations.
