What is fluoxetine hydrochloride?

Fluoxetine hydrochloride is a general name of drugs known as Provac® and Sarafem®. Provac® is a well -known remedy for the treatment of depression and has been commonly prescribed. Since 2001, the generic version of the drug has been available and doctors often prescribe general because it is cheaper. Some people take this medicine as an obsessive-compulsive disorder, anxiety or panic disorder and social anxiety disorder. The rate to which it can be effective for these conditions often differ according to the individual. One newer use of drugs, as prescribed in the form of SARAFEM®, is for the treatment of premenstrual dysmorphic disorder (PMDD). PMDD treatment usually occurs only for part of the Moon at a time when women experience premenstrual syndrome (PMS).

The main action of fluoxetine of hydrochloride jeinhibit the absorption of neurotransmitter serotonin. This is called a selective serotonin reuptide inhibitor (SSRI). It is believed that more of this neurotransmitter has a beneficial impact on the stability of the mood.

As with virtually all other SSRIs and in fact, most antidepressants should be taken care of when this medicine is prescribed. Fluoxetine hydrochloride carries a black box warning that it can cause increased suicidal feelings or actions, especially in adolescent and young adults. Any such feelings must be reported immediately to the doctor. Other side effects of ProVac® include dry mouth, reduced sexual desire, anorgasmia (inability to achieve orgasm), sleep problems such as sleeping too much or too little, anxiety, shaking and stomach angry. According to clinical trials, these side effects are felt by clinically significant number of people, but it usually means less than 10% of people taking this medicine.

There are many drugs that must be either interrupted or used with care if the hydrochloride fluoxetine is prescribed. Fluoxetine dosing is adapted to the individual and may vary. Many people start with a dose of 20 mg, but can increase it to a higher dose later. Children could start with 20 mg or at a dose of 10 mg. The medication takes several weeks to achieve its full effects, and this can cause people impatient. It is important to provide medication time to work if the side effects are not serious and do not increase the dosage without the advice of the doctor. Drugs like ProVAC® should never be shared and people should not stop or run fluoxetine without leading a doctor.
