What is intestinal ischemia?

intestinal ischemia is a medical term that describes the intestine damage due to reduced blood flow. The large and small intestine can be influenced by ischemia from various other health conditions and diseases. It can be extremely painful, cause serious complications and to prove that they are even fatal unless it is handled correctly.

intestinal ischemia rarely occurs in itself. Incentive injuries such as hernia or tissue of scars from surgery can damage and lead to narrowing of blood flow. Blood clots are also common causes of bowel ischemia. Sometimes the clot in the heart can travel on the bloodstream before it is stored in an artery that supplies blood to the intestine. This is more likely in individuals who have already had heart attacks or other heart conditions. Thrombosis, a condition that narrows arteries and/or veins of the body, can also reduce blood flow to the large or small intestine and lead to a problem with blood flow. Low blood pressure, intestinal disease and digestive system cancer can alsolead to cases of intestinal ischemia.

The primary symptom of intestinal ischemia is abdominal pain, which is usually very serious and does not disappear. Business symptoms of the condition are also stomach, nausea, vomiting and diarrhea. Blood can be found in the stool and bowel movements may require extreme strength. Eating can sometimes get worse. Belly convulsions and flatulence after eating are another common side effect of intestinal ischemia.

intestinal ischemia is a serious condition that can lead to dangerous complications. Reduced blood flow to the intestines can result in permanently damage and even dying. Surgery is the only treatment with dead tissue in the intestines. In these cases, dead and damaged tissue is removed and the surgeon must try to combine all the ever -healthy parts of the intestine together. Severe tissue damage or intestinal death can make it impossible.

In these cases colostomy is the only oneou available option. This requires that a hole and a healthy end of the intestine are cut in the patient's belly, which was connected directly to this hole. On the other hand, a pouch is connected, usually called colostory bag and flows directly into it. Due to the negative connotations associated with this procedure, it is usually performed only as a last option.
