What is paronychia?
Paronychia is an infection that occurs on the fold of nails on the legs or toes. These nail folds are ridges that surround the side of the nail, and when Paronychia strikes, it can cause the skin ridge to be red or inflamed and painful. This term is often used to describe nail mushrooms, but the condition may be caused by a fungus or have a bacterial infection present, a slightly confusing condition. Most often inflammation and pain are caused by infections from skin yeasts such as Candida. In young children, the cause is often finger sucking or biting nails. People who work with their hands in a humid environment, such as those who often wash dishes, can also be a little more susceptible to the condition. Another common cause of paronychia is the injury of the nail. If you cut the nail too close or start to get an overgrown nail, you can develop this condition, especially on your feet.
assuming that it seems that there is no pus around skin folds and the condition is not extremely painful, you maythe power to ignore paronychia; It can sometimes be solved by itself. If the skin becomes more swollen, if the peeling of the skin begins to occur or when pus or overgrown nails are present, you should see a doctor. People with bad circulation and diabetes should never ignore things like paronychia because of the further risk of infection on the lower limbs.
Most often, treatment for this condition of application of either antifungals or antibiotic creams. Some people will not respond to creams or creams and may require oral medicines. Treatment is usually dependent on severity and basic cause. Doctors also recommend that if you need medicines to treat panychia, you will complete medicines, even if the condition improves in a few days. Heavy cases may require drainage pus, usually done in the doctor's office.
If you have an active case of paronychia, do not look for your nails. Try to avoid wet work like washing dishes. Do not forget to limit the showers to a few minutes and then thoroughly dry legs or hands.
Fungal and bacterial infections may be contagious and if you have this condition, you should avoid pedicures or manicure. For children who seem to often get it, especially because of finger intake or nail biting, it can help discourage this behavior. If possible, hold your hands or legs (as some children chew on their feet) covered.
