What Is the Connection Between Cerebral Palsy and Brain Damage?
Cerebral palsy is a syndrome caused by non-progressive brain injury and developmental defects from the beginning of conception to infancy. It is mainly manifested as dyskinesia and abnormal posture.

Basic Information
Causes of cerebral palsy
- The high risk factors of cerebral palsy mainly occur in newborns with one or more factors such as hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, premature birth, hyperbilirubinemia, intracranial hemorrhage, etc. Some of them may develop cerebral palsy.
Clinical manifestations of cerebral palsy
- Clinical typing
- (1) The spastic type is mainly damaged by the cone system.
- (2) The type of involuntary movement is mainly the damage of the extrapyramidal system, and involuntary movement increases. Manifestations include hand and foot movement, dance-like movements, dystonia, and tremor.
- (3) The tonic type is mainly damaged by the extrapyramidal system, showing continuous increase in muscle tension like gears and lead pipes.
- (4) Cerebellar damage is the main type of ataxia .
- (5) Low muscle tone.
- (6) Mixed type The same child shows two or more types of symptoms.
- 2. Typing by paralysis site
- (1) A single limb is involved in monoplegia .
- (2) Double limbs are involved in the limbs, the upper limbs are light, and the lower limbs are heavy.
- (3) Three limbs are involved.
- (4) Hemiplegic limb involvement.
- (5) Tetraplegia. The involvement of upper limbs and lower limbs is similar.
Cerebral palsy diagnosis
- 1. Brain damage that causes cerebral palsy is non-progressive.
- 2. The lesion causing the dyskinesia is in the brain.
- 3. Symptoms appear during infancy.
- 4. May be combined with mental retardation, epilepsy, sensory impairment, communication impairment, behavioral abnormalities and other abnormalities.
- 5. Excluding central dyskinesias caused by progressive diseases and temporary motor retardation in normal children.
Cerebral Palsy Treatment
- There have been some in-depth studies on early rehabilitation screening and intervention for children with cerebral palsy. Early screening, diagnosis and intervention of children with high risk of cerebral palsy are important preventive measures to reduce the disability and improve the quality of life of children. In the intervention, to analyze and discuss educational strategies from multiple perspectives such as society, family, and individuals, the organism must be studied as a whole or system, and discussed with typical cases. For example, games are the instincts of infants. A form of life sports, when training, you can use toys, household items or home-made toys to create a colorful external environment and stimulate food, toys, and housework activities. Let children feel the colorful external environment, so that children become agile and adaptable.
- Intramuscular BTXA injection can be used for traditional Chinese medicine treatment, surgical treatment and drug treatment, which can provide favorable conditions for rehabilitation training of children with spastic CP.
