What Are the Steps for Setting Up an Access Point?
The apn setting, that is, the "access point name" setting, whose full name is Access Point Name, is a parameter that must be configured when the user accesses the Internet through a mobile phone. It determines which access method the user's mobile phone uses to access the mobile network. [1] Based on the access point name, you can determine what services are provided in the packet data link. These services may include: links to the public Internet; connections to WAPs to forward web pages on the Internet; provision of short messages, or multimedia services. [2]
- APN is composed of two parts:
- (1) APN network identifier, which is used to define which external network the GGSN is connected to, and the optional response service to the MS request. This part of APN is mandatory.
- (2) APN operator identification, defined as the PLMN GPRS backbone network used to locate the GGSN. This part of APN is optional.
- The APN operator identity is located after the APN network identity. An APN containing a network identity and an operator identity conforms to the DNS domain name of the GGSN and cannot exceed 100 bytes (eight bits per byte).
- The syntax of APN must comply with the definition of name syntax in RFC2181 (clear DNS specification) and RFC1035 (domain name one implementation and specification). APN consists of one or more tags. The length of each label is one byte (8bit), which indicates the number of subsequent ASCI characters (each character occupies an 8-bit byte). To comply with the RFC1035 specification, the label should contain only letters (AZ and az), numbers (0-9), and dashes. The order of the letters is not important. The end of the APN indicates that the length field value cannot be zero. [3]
