What is a Laptop Touchpad?
Touchpad ( TouchPad or TrackPad ) is an input device widely used in notebook computers. It controls the movement of the pointer by sensing the movement of the user's finger.

- 1. Touchpad to move the pointer: select or activate items on the screen;
- 2. Left touchpad button: functions like the left button of an external mouse;
- 3. Touchpad scrolling area: scroll up or down;
- 4. Right touchpad button: functions like the right button on an external mouse.
- The touch panel is made of an array of rows and columns with a printed circuit board; the printed board and the surface plastic film are bonded with a strong double-sided adhesive, and its induction detection principle is capacitance sensing. A special integrated circuit board under the touchpad surface will continuously measure and report this trajectory, so as to detect the movement and position of the finger.
- The touch pad is an input device that can move a cursor on a smooth touch pad by using a finger sliding operation. Make it easy for beginners to use. Because the thickness of the touchpad is very thin. So it can be designed into ultra-thin notebook computers or keyboards. And it is not a mechanical design. Very easy to maintain. Its working principle is that when the user's finger approaches the touchpad, the capacitance will change. The touchpad's own control IC will detect the change in capacitance and convert it into coordinates. The touchpad learns the movement of the finger by capacitive sensing, and is not sensitive to the heat of the finger. When a finger touches the board surface, the electrostatic field on the board surface changes. The touchpad sensor is just a finger trace conducting line printed on the surface of the board.
- 1. To move the cursor, gently move your finger on the smooth sensing area;
- 2. To select an object, tap it once on the surface of the touchpad;
- 3. To select and move (or drag) an object, position the cursor on the object, and then tap the touchpad twice in a row. When you tap the touchpad for the second time, rest your finger on the touchpad and slide on the surface to move the selected object;
- 4. To double-click an object, position the cursor on the object and then double-tap. [1]
- The touchpad is a pressure-sensitive device, and if not properly protected, the touchpad is easily damaged. Therefore, pay attention to the following points when using:
- 1. Do not allow the touchpad to be contaminated with dust, liquid or grease;
- 2. If your fingers are not clean, do not touch the touchpad;
- 3. Do not place heavy objects on the touchpad or other keys;
- 4. Please make sure that there is no excessive sweat or moisture in the hands, because excessive humidity will cause the indicator device to short circuit, and the touchpad surface should be kept clean and dry during daily use;
- 5. When typing or using the touchpad, do not lean your hand or wrist against the touchpad. Because the touchpad can sense any movement of the fingertips, if you place your hand on the touchpad, it will cause the touchpad to respond badly or move slowly;
- 6. Use only one finger for operation.
- The components in a computer are different from other electronic products, because all its hardware must communicate with the operating system to work properly, and the association between the device and the core of the operating system is mainly through drivers.
- The system can recognize the touchpad if it is installed
