What is Maximum Segment Size?

Maximum Segment Size) is a parameter of the Transmission Control Protocol that defines the maximum amount of data in segments that a computer or communication device can accept in bytes. It does not calculate the size of the TCP or IP protocol headers. IP packets containing TCP segments can be self-contained within a single packet or reconstructed from multiple IP fragments.
