What is minicom?

Minicom is a freely available serial communication program that runs under Linux ™ and other variants of the UNIX ™ operating system. It works by providing a terminal emulator for communication with other devices through a computer serial port. It can be direct communication between a computer or computer or to control a modem connected to a serial port. Many program functions can be automated using your own scripting language.

It was developed with the intention of providing free serial communication with open source code and modem control application for computer systems UNIX ™. The MiniCom, inspired by the Telix program written for MS-DOS, offers the same features available for hyperterminal software as Microsoft® Windows® operating systems. However, minicom is not a typical application with a graphical user interface (GUI). Instead, it runs via the command line and provides a text range of configiration menu options. Once it is running and its operationIt runs through keyboard commands and shortcuts.

Because the serial port in the system is accessible only by the Super User account, known as Root on Unix ™ Systems, or those belonging to a special privilege group called a group of dialing, ordinary users are unable to configure minicom. For security purposes, most users are not added to the dialing group, so the system manager usually configures the software for all through the root account. Once the serial port is configured, it is also necessary to set the modem to tell the software at what speed it is capable and so on. It is also possible to configure other settings for software operation, such as specific file storage locations, positioning scripts, as well as other protocol settings, should be triggered.

Minicom is able to use a file of TRPROTOKOLY ANSFER (FTP) for data recording and downloading. They are in the main menu during the setupCE available options to create a protocol name, startup program and any other FTP parameters. After setting these protocols and other primary configuration options, some minicom operations can be automated using its scripting language.

Another piece of software is included in Minicom, but runs separately and gives the ability to provide automation for frequently used tasks. The RunScript command is an interpreter used for this purpose. It offers a number of keywords, many of which come with other variable options. Scripts can be used for things such as dialing the often used modem number and login to the server, downloading some data and disconnecting from the server and more.
