What is PGP?

PGP (quite good privacy) is the most respected encryption program in the world. It can be used to protect the privacy of e -mails, data files, disks and fast messages. Data packets can be captured and saved for years. Even postal servers will often be indefinitely stored on messages that can be read now or at a future point, sometimes long after the author has changed his opinion. E -mail, unlike a phone call or letter, is not legally protected as private communication and can therefore be read by third parties, legal or other, without authorization or knowledge of the author. Many groups of personal data protection for watchdogs, If you do not use encryption, do not include anything you would not want to see in the e -mail. It changes a clear, readable text to a complex character code that is completely unreadable. E -mail or instant message travels to the destination or recipient in this form pronounced. The recipient uses PGP to decrypt the message back into a readable form. Whatever you have OBAva from the protection of privacy rights, corporate announcer or citizen who simply wants to chat with friends without allowing people to "listen", PGP is an answer.

A simple but brilliant method of encrypting a public key is based on creating a pair of adapted . A few keys consist of public key and private keys . The public key encrypts messages while the private key decrypts them.

using PGP by Mr. Wise generates a few keys by entering a real name or nickname that will be associated with wklíče and password. Two keys are interconnected algorithms that appear as small pieces of text code. Mr. Wise can freely share a public key with anyone who wants to send him an encrypted message. Let's say Mr. Wise gives Mrs. Geek's public key. It can copy it and insert it into the e -mail and send it "in clear".

ms. Geek receives a public key and copies it to its Ring Public Key Ring in PGP. After writing E -mail Mr. Wise, he is encrypted with an associated public key obtained from a key ring. The encrypted e -mail is now sent. If someone captures e -mail on the route or even if it is stored on the server, it will be unreadable.

When Mr. Wise receives e -mail, his private key decrypts the message. Communication is therefore maintained private, even if it travels on public channels. Encryption and decryption can be done automatically because PGP smoothly breaks with most of the main e -mail clients.

If you want to send encrypted e -mail to someone using PGP, you only need its public key. Each public key is unique and works with an associated private key as a pair of keys. If you encrypt the message with someone other than the recipient, the recipient will not be able to decrypt the message.

6 This allows foreigners to send youEncrypted mail simply by searching for your public key. To avoid spam, you can choose instead to publicly discreetly e -mail to manually selected friends. Others attach their public key as part of their signature on public posts to discussion groups and web chat boards.

PGP user can also use their private key to digitally sign Outgoing mail so that the recipient knows that the mail came from the named sender. The third party would not have access to the private key, so the digital underwriting verifies the sender.

sensitive data files stored on a hard disk or on a removable medium can also be protected using PGP. You can use your public key to encrypt files and private keys to decrypt them. Some versions also allow the user to encrypt the entire disk. This is particularly useful for notebook users in case the notebook is lost or stolen.

Early version of PGP wrote PHilip Zimmermann and offered the public for the first time in 1991. The program is open source and has several different versions with the predominant attitudes that are best about. Some versions are free of charge for personal use, while the latest "official" incarnations offered through PGP Corporation are Shareware. Starting with PGP v. 9.0, users are offered a fully functional trial run free of charge before the software returns to a smaller version, a minus purchased license. The smaller version still allows you to encrypt the e-mail, but part of the car is crippled.

Commercial versions of PGP are also available for use in network multiple user environments.
