What is the system migration?
System migration is an act of data transfer and programs from one computer system to another. This may include the physical system migration if old hardware devices are no longer able to meet the needs of the system or have been damaged by these components. It may also take the form of migration based on data in which files and data are transmitted to a new operating system.
As technological progress, hardware and operating systems become obsolete and limited. The system, which is initially on the edge of the razor new technology, is sometimes obsolete within a few years. Many corporations and organizations find that software and hardware used in their Mainframe computer systems are not able to compete with modern network servers systems. To maintain a competitive advantage, it is sometimes necessary to migrate stored information, such as data and programs, into a newer system. Migration software is available to automate the process for many computer operating systems.With progress in software engineering, many modern programs will work in backward compatible mode. These programs are able to read and write to older data files or convert them to a usable format. In some cases, older programs must also be converted to ensure available data in file systems that do not have a modern equivalent.
The physical system migration is the transfer of the whole system, including data and programs, to a new physical computer. This procedure is often necessary if spare parts are no longer available or economically feasible for outdated computer computer systems. In some cases, the outdated system is not able to meet reasonable processing requirements and requires upgrades. Rather than investing money in upgrade or repairing obsolete and Limited Mainframe System, some companies and organizations buy a new network systemabout the server. The entire operating system is then cloned into a new system. Data and programming files are then transmitted to a new server.
Migration based on data and physical systems can be subject to downtime, a period of time in which available system files cannot be available. In order to minimize downtime, information technology experts (IT) generally recommend that software maintenance, correct backup and planning of alternative access to files be introduced during major system changes. In some situations, the gradual migration of the system is used to move file groups for a certain period of time to prevent complete disturbance of productivity.
