What are they in typography?

When typographers talk about gutters, they do not agree with channels or troughs on roofs used for direct water, but refer to a similar concept. Typographic gutters are white spaces between two pages of the book or more generally between columns of text. They are a type of edge and the correct arrangement is a key element of typography. In the case of those between the pages of the book, those that are poorly designed can actually cover part of the text. In this case, if the space is not created wide enough to allow the book binding, the text will hit the seam of binding, which will be difficult or impossible to read. The troughs, which are less narrowly distributed, can still introduce problems and their organization is actually fine art. And the solid text block without a break can be very difficult to read and understand. As a result, typography integrates the use of troughs, edges and other white spaces to make the surface visually interesting. Breaks provided by White Space help to direct the eye and keep the reader to the task. When the reader sees columnsText separate with white space, its training suggests that columns should be read individually.

newspapers provide an excellent example of troughs and edges. When the reader looks at the front page of the newspaper, he noticed that the text is divided into a range of columns, clearly separated by white space. These white spaces inform the eye that pieces of text should be read independently and gradually. Each column is a story and every eaves are like a chapter divider. They also provide rest for the eye and allow reader to focus and absorb the material. The newspaper with the front page, which took the form of a solid block of the text without interruption, would be difficult to read.

Gratery are slightly different from the edges. The term "margin" is used to indicate any white space, typographically, usually on the edge or edge of the printed material. Margins are important because they break pictures and text on the page. Graters are usually used specifically toTalking about space between columns of text. This space can also be considered a margin, so we can say that the eaves are margins, but not all margins are troughs.
