What are Searchlights?
A searchlight is a device with a powerful light source and a concave mirror that focuses the light in a specific direction for long-distance lighting and searching. The reflected beam or lens can be used to focus the outgoing beam in a small solid angle (generally less than 2 degrees of tools) to obtain a larger light intensity. Considering the volume, weight and convenient operation of the device, most searchlights are equipped with a tripod or a movable vehicle. Large searchlights even have a special truck as the vehicle.

Wing-End Searchlight for P-2 Neptune Patrol Aircraft 2
During World War I and World War II, huge powerful searchlights were used extensively on the battlefield. For example: as an aid to air defense weapons, to mark the target of artillery, and as a search tool for ships at sea. These powerful searchlights often use concave mirrors with a diameter of 1 to 2 meters. The mirror is silver plated inside, and there will be two thick carbon rods at the focal point. The edge of the concave mirror is sealed with a round top cover made of heat-resistant quartz glass. The top cover can be removed when carbon rods need to be replaced and maintenance is required. Searchlights work on the same principle as halogen lamps and require a lot of power to produce strong light. The range of the searchlight can reach more than several kilometers. The searchlight operator will attempt to blind the pilot of the first aircraft in the bomber squadron (also called the Pathfinder ) with the searchlight. Pathfinder 's task is to use flares to create Christmas tree-shaped markers around the target to guide subsequent bombers to drop bombs. If Pathfinder pilots were blinded by searchlights, the bombers behind would not know how to drop bombs.
