What Are Structural Insulated Panels?
Insulation board, also known as insulation rubber pad, insulation pad, insulation pad, insulation blanket. Insulation pads are widely used in substations, power plants, power distribution rooms, test rooms, and field live operations.

- Because the insulation board works outdoors and is directly affected by atmospheric conditions, it is also contaminated by oil fume, water vapor, and pulverized coal on the mixed traction railway line, and dust particles are likely to adhere to the surface, causing insulation leakage. The arc further carbonizes the surface of the insulating plate, and the carbon marks are distributed in an irregular tree shape on the surface of the insulating plate to damage the insulation. Therefore, it is required that the manufacturing process of the insulation board must be strict, ensure the surface smoothness, make it difficult to adhere to dirt, and have good arc resistance. Before using the insulation board, the samples should be tested for tracking resistance and arc resistance, and can only be used after reaching the national IA2.5 level and arc resistance standards.

- The insulation board is used as the insulation medium between the contact grid and the ground. Due to the small space under the bridge, the contact wires may contact the insulation board and cause surface discharge. Epoxy glass fiber reinforced plastic and SMC molding compound have a good linear relationship, and unsaturated polycrystalline glass fiber reinforced plastic has a polyline relationship, but both indicate that the insulating material is under a strong electric field (especially under surface discharge conditions), and its service life will be greatly reduced. Therefore, in the project should try not to make the insulation board work under the state of surface discharge. Catenary suspension structure should use isolation suspension as far as possible, so that there is an air gap between the contact line and the insulation plate to form secondary insulation. At this time, most of the voltage on the ground of the catenary is applied to the air gap, and the voltage on the insulation board is low. Only when the electric locomotive passes under the bridge, the contact wire may make short-term contact with the insulation board. It can effectively prevent surface discharge and prolong the electrical life of the insulation board. [2]
