What are the different types of plumbing tubes?
The two main categories of plump pipes are plastic and metal. Plastic pipes include polyvinyl chloride (PVC), chlorinated polyvinylchlor (CPVC), Pex and PolyPipe® tube. Copper, stainless steel and galvanized steel are all types of metal water pipes. Not all pipes are as useful or efficient as others and each type is used for a specific purpose in plumbing.
PVC is a type of plastic water pipe primarily used for transport with high pressure water. It is available in several standard sizes, from 0.2 inches (1.3 centimeters) to 4 inches (10.2 centimeters) on average. The PVC tube is only made for handling cold water, as hot water causes the pipe deformation. Generally, white is, although several varieties are gray. It is supplied in a distinctive yellow color and can handle hot and cold water. CPVC is more flexible with significantly thinner walls than PVC tube and has the same outer diameter and with copper pipe that increases the range of use.
Pex pipe, also known as a cross polyethylene tube, was first made in the 1920s, but has become more popular in recent years. It shares the same outer diameter as copper and can be used for hot and cold water. However, the PEX pipes have much higher heat resistance than most other water pipes and is often used in water -based heating systems. It comes in cream white and also red and blue, which is used to indicate hot and cold tubes.
The final type of plastic plumbing tube is PolyPipe®, a thick black pipe used to transport high pressure water, usually to the home of home. It is used almost exclusively outdoors and is usually buried underground to prevent freezing. PolyPipe® is extremely rigid and rarely used for other purposes.
Copper is the most common type of plumbing pilape is used in the home, although it is more expensive than plastic aftertube. Copper is particularly resistant to corrosion and can withstand high temperatures. Copper pipes come in three different sizes - type M, L and K. Type M has very thin walls, while type L has a mean thickness and type K is the strongest of the three.
stainless steel pipes are less used than other metal pipes because it is more expensive and harder to find. It is used primarily in the marine environment because it can withstand salty water that would erode most other metal pipes. The price is less desirable for other applications or in safer areas where the copper pipe would work as well.
Galvanized pipes have been used in homes for years, usually to carry water in and out of the house. The galvanized coating prevents rust and gives a dull gray look. The use of these heavy pipes is reduced because it is replaced by a Pex pipe, which is cheaper and equally resistant. Galvanized pipes usually come between ½ inches (1.3 centimeters) and 2 inches (5.1 centimeters) in diameter.
