What is a concrete brick unit?
The common cement block is known in the concrete industry as concrete masonry. The unit designation is usually shortened to CMU. A typical unit of masonry is a rectangular block made of Portland cement and aggregate, most often sand or filtered gravel. This process creates a high density concrete block.
Concrete masonry units can be real high -density concrete blocks, or it may be a lower density cinder, produced with a fly aggregate or lower ash. In addition, there are blocks of slots, made with melting waste engines, usually coal, coke, slag or gravel. Aerated concrete can be used in the production of very strong but relatively light masonry units. However, prohibitions cause the use of aerated CMU is relatively rare.
The most common concrete brick unit is considered 8 inches by 8 inches of 16 inches (20 cm by 20 cm x 41 cm). In fact, all CMU 3/8 inches (1 cm) are smaller all the time to allow a layer of mortar mezi blocks. In U.K., where a typical concrete masonry unit is known as a breeze, the dimensions differ significantly at 17.3 inches by 8.5 inches by 3.9 inches (44 cm by 21.5 cm by 10 cm).
Ordinary concrete brick unit usually has two or three holes in the unit, sometimes called cores. These holes or cores serve a number of functions, including cutting weight and as an insulating factor. Also, the steel reinforcement is often inserted into the core openings to ensure the added force and stability to the wall carrying a concrete block. On lower structures, the holes can be filled with gravel or sand for the same purpose.
Concrete brick units, although they are mainly used in utilitarian structures, are often used in the building of the domestic building as foundation blocks. The foundations of concrete blocks are strong, stable and above all cheap than brick, stone or poured concrete foundations. Their only disadvantage may be the blandLecheje. However, stucco, color, plaster, etching or tiles can be used to improve the appearance of concrete block foundations and walls. In addition, concrete brick units can be made in almost unlimited shapes, textures and colors.
The individual who works with the CMUS is commonly known as the Masons. Of course, the foundations of masonry include mortar and masonry products such as bricks and concrete blocks. All Masons are familiar with different building characteristics, restrictions and adaptation of a particular type of concrete brick unit.
