What Is a Japanese Chisel?
A chisel is a steel tool with a cutting edge on the end of a handle or handle. The chisel is usually held in one hand at right angles to the surface of the object to be carved and beaten with a mallet (MALLET) held in the other hand. A carver sculpts stone, wood, metal, or other materials with a chisel, while a printmaker uses a chisel to make woodblock printing plates. Chisels used in woodcuts are often simply referred to as straight to distinguish them from curved chisels. [1]
