What Is a Japanese Chisel?

A chisel is a steel tool with a cutting edge on the end of a handle or handle. When using a chisel to punch holes, the left hand is usually used to hold the chisel handle and the right hand is to hold the hammer. When punching the hole, the chisel needs to be shaken on both sides. The purpose is not to pinch the chisel and to remove the wood chips from the hole. The half mortise is cut in the front, and the through-hole needs to be cut about half from the back of the component, and then the front is cut again until it is cut through.

Chisels have different shape classifications according to different uses:

Flat chisel: The knife edge is flat. The knife edge and the chisel body are in an isosceles triangle. It is mainly used to open square holes or repair some square holes.

Inclined chisel: The knife edge is at an angle of 45 °, and the knife edge and the chisel body are in an inverted right-angled triangle. It is mainly used for repairs, and most of them are used for sculpting and carving.

Round chisel: The knife edge is semi-circular, which is mainly used to open circular holes or oval holes;

Diamond chisel: V-shaped knife edge, now rare, mainly used for carving and repair;
