What is a wedge anchor?

WEDGE Anchor is a type of special fastener used to connect objects to concrete or brick structures. They can be used to ensure the work of drawing on the brick wall, hanging pipes or water pipes from the ceiling, or screw the item to the floor. In some areas, they may also be known as anchor screws or expansion screws.

The standard wedge anchor consists of two components connected by the manufacturer. The standard metal screw forms the base of the wedge anchor and is surrounded by a metal or thermoplastic sleeve. As soon as the installation program puts the screw into the brick wall or floor, the anchor base slips inside the sleeve. A rounded or conical tip at the end of the base forces the walls of the sleeve out to the side to grab the inside of the concrete or stone wall to create a safe hold.

The installation device must select each wedge anchor carefully on a number of factors. MustConsider the load that the anchor will need to support, as well as the composition and condition of the surface where it will be installed. For example, decaying concrete and older walls require a heavier anchor of the wedge than the new walls. Everything from the length, thickness and material of the anchor screw can affect the security of the installation. While standard steel works in most applications, galvanized or stainless steel for frequent exposure to moisture or chemical can be required in areas.

Before installing a wedge anchor, suppliers must drill a hole that is slightly longer than the anchor itself. This requires a hammer drill or other tool for drilling masonry. Before installation, the surface of the stone or concrete must be completely clean and without debris. This includes removal of any free concrete and vacuuming or blowing dust.

Furthermore, the entire unit must be inserted into the pre -shaped hole and the bend of the location using a hammer or mallet. Once the face of the anchors on the wedge sits with the surrounding surface, the installation workers use the drill orscrewdriver to turn the anchor base. When the base turns and pulls inside the sleeve, the walls of the sleeve eat on the walls of the hole. Applications with heavy ways require the institute to use torque key to ensure that the anchor has been properly installed and sufficient force is used to ensure that the finished project is safe.
