How Do I Treat a Wrist Fracture?
Wrist fractures are more common in daily life. Most of the injured are the elderly. Most patients are caused by landing on the palm after a fall. Fractures mostly occur at the proximal 2 cm of the distal radius and are clinically referred to as Collis fractures. Without timely and effective treatment, patients with wrist joints will have joint deformities, limited joint mobility, and joint pain, which often brings many inconveniences to patients' daily lives. Therefore, it must be properly reset and well fixed during diagnosis and treatment.

Wrist Fracture Introduction
- Wrist fractures are more common in daily life.
Wrist Fracture Overview
- There are two treatment methods for wrist fracture: conservative treatment and surgical treatment. Conservative treatment is mainly performed by manual reduction, external splint or plaster support. Although conservative treatment can achieve early joint function training, due to the concern of insecure fracture fixation in conservative treatment, the fracture may relocate, resulting in treatment failure. Surgical treatment mainly uses surgical incision and reduction, and internal fixation with steel plates. Surgical incision and reduction can be used for strong internal fixation.
Wrist fracture rehabilitation training
- When the fracture has basically healed, active exercises for wrist flexion and extension, and resistance exercises for wrist flexion can be started. Then, every 3 to 4 days, the intensity and difficulty of forearm and wrist exercises are increased. In joint motion range training, avoid using force to avoid new injuries. During the recovery period, the patient should also add some hands-on activity training, such as building blocks and weaving.
Wrist fracture diet note
- Patients with fractures must ensure a reasonable diet during recovery, and use as little spicy food or hair as possible, not to mention smoking. Scientific research shows that some of the chemical components emitted by smoking can hinder fracture healing.
