What is Wolfsbane?

Wolfsbane is a flowering plant consisting of more than 200 species. Member of the ButterCup family, the race has many alternative names, including women's Bane, Leopard Bane, Devil's Helmes, Blue Rocket, Monkshood, Aconite and its official name Aconitum. The plant has claimed many diverse uses, from herbal drugs to poisonous weapons.

The Wolfsbane structure is relatively simple. The plant grows as a long, straight stem until this stem protrudes dark green leaves and a helmet -shaped flower with two to ten petals. Flowers come in a variety of colors, from blue to yellow to pink. As a permanent plant, Wolfsbane is resistant and can usually live for many years. It naturally grows at humid high altitudes.

While Wolfsbane can be found in many floral gardens, it also has other non -traditional uses. For example, many plant species contain roots that are poisonous. As a result, people often harvested roots and synthesized the poison poison for use on weaponsH in hunting and war. This practice is especially in some rural tribal areas of China and Japan. Even a small amount of exposure to roots can produce armor and numbness and exposure on a large scale can cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, rapid heart rhythm and even death.

On the other hand, Chinese herbal medicine will find many beneficial uses for the plant. Herbalists claimed successful treatment of the following diseases: general pain, fever, chills, urine problems, colds, heart palpitations, high blood pressure and appendicitis to name at least some. This treatment generates the alleged ability of herbs for numbness and slow function. Due to the possible toxic effects, however, specialists in herbal medicine usually prepare only small doses and in many treatments Wolfsbane is diluted with ginger and other substances. Traditional doctors sometimes used the plant at the beginning of the 20th century asanesthetic form of anesthesia applied to the skin or respiratory areas.

Wolfsbane also got into a supernatural tradition. His name comes from the stored abilities of the plant with werewolf: either as an agent of transformation or death agent. In addition, the word often appears in the magic of witchcraft. The famous playwright William Shakespeare even referred to the plant as an evil hypnotic medicine with dangerous designs.

The secrets of a successfully growing Wolfsbane is close to imitating its natural conditions. The seeds should be held in wet cold before planting. When handling seeds, it should be careful because they contain poisonous elements. The seeds should be sown at temperatures of approximately 50 degrees Fahrenheit (10 degrees Celcius) and the plant should be kept outside of direct sunlight. A healthy Wolfsbane plant will bloom in summer and can grow 98 inches (about 250 centimeters) high.
