Is it safe to combine doxycycline and dairy products?

The combination of doxycycline and milk is not inherently dangerous, but reduces the efficiency of doxycycles. Dairy products, milk, cheese, yoghurt and other milk-based foods-calculate calcium that disrupts the absorption of doxycycline into the bloodstream. It is recommended that patients avoid dairy products at least two hours before or after diescycline use. Depending on the dose and frequency of the drug, the severity of the infection, the physician may recommend that the dairy products do not allow the doxycycline at all.

Doxycycline is a broad -spectrum antibiotic that can be used to treat urinary tract infections, acne, respiratory infections and various bacterial sexually transmitted diseases. This drug works by stopping proteins in bacteria in replication. It is commonly prescribed because it is cheaper and has less side effects than other broad -spectrum antibiotics such as ciprofloxacin. Unlike some antibiotics, however, is best absorbed on an empty stomach, so the problem with the taking doxycycline and the milkProducts together.

Reducing efficiency in a combination of doxycycline and dairy products also applies to some other meals. Patients who usually use dietary supplements such as calcium, iron or multivitamin should stop taking doxycycline if their doctor or pharmacist says otherwise. Instead, they should try to get these nutrients as much diet as possible during treatment.

Some patients routinely eat yogurt as a probiotic, while on antibiotics they maintain a healthy amount of bacteria in the body, especially in the digestive system. This reduces the risk of side effects, such as stomach for irritation, yeast infection or other fungal infections that are common with antibiotics. Because yogurt is of course a dairy product, this is not recommended for doxycycline. Patients can take over -the -counter, commercially produced probiotic supplements or other non -medical probiotic mealsLA, such as coconut yogurt to prevent combing doxycycline and dairy products.
