What can I expect when implanting a stent?
stent implantation is an angioplastic procedure performed by a cardiologist, nurses and techniques who are specially trained to work in a catheterization facility. During the procedure, a stent is placed in your heart to open a blood vessel that narrowed due to plaque accumulation. The walls of your artery are supported by a stent that has the appearance of a wire network coil.
The stent implantation procedure is carried out in a device that is equipped with heart care if immediate heart surgery is required. General anesthesia is not required to implant stent, but you will receive a sedative via intravenous (IV) line. You will be relaxed and sleepy, but you will realize your surroundings. The area where catheters are inserted to get to the heart is cleaned, shaved and dull. The common area is on one or both sides of your groin where you could feel pressure. Angiograms-or X-ray images-give the cardiologist a view of blocked areas of your heart. A thin guide wire with a dye is inserted into the heartTo the catheter so that the cardiologist can see the pictures.
Your heart rate is monitored using small electrode pads that are located on the chest. One of two types of coronary stents is used. Bare metal stents keep the artery open and prevent the artery from narrowing. Special drugs have special drug painting that releases drugs over time to help prevent re -blocked artery.
stent implant includes inserting a balloon at the end of the catheter into your heart. The balloon is inflated for a few minutes to stretch the artery. Blood flow to the heart is temporarily blocked so you can experience chest pain while the balloon is inflated. The balloon is released after the arter and removed is stretched wide enough to support the location of the stent.
After expanding the artery and stent, the cardiologist inserts a stent with a supply catheter into the coronary artery. The balloon is inflated in an area where you have blocked. The stent expands and locked inside your artery.
The procedure is repeated if you have several blockages. The stent works to suit the size and outlines of your artery and becomes a permanent implant. The wire conductor catheter is removed after the stent implantation is completed.
