What is the bolus tube?
When a person is sick or has a problem with a neck that prevents normal eating and swallowing, it must be fed by other means. If the person is very weak, it is likely that the fluid containing glucose will be introduced directly into the bloodstream, bypass the need for digestion and provides an immediate and continued energy source. However, if the person is strong enough to spend food but has difficulty swallowing, food is introduced directly into the stomach through a tube called the bolus tube. This can be caused by swelling in the throat, a certain type of neck damage, poor swallowing or other food problems. The pipe is used to introduce food in the form of a special pattern into the stomach, which provides more nutrition than can only be obtained by intravenous feeding.
In order to use the bolus tube, the person must be in the position at least in the half -six position. The syringe and part of the stomach, usually just gastric fluids, are attached to this to verify that the last meal BYlo adequately cleaved. The fluids return to the stomach and the syringe is rinsed and filled with a formula. The formula is pushed by the bolus tube by the pressure of the piston on the syringe. When the syringe is almost empty, the tube should be closed to prevent air from entering the stomach while the syringe is completed with a formula.
Theprocess continues until the entire amount of formula, which has been pursued by the bolus tube and into the stomach, is prescribed. It is necessary to do this slowly so that it does not cause the digestive digestive, and when the whole amount was given, the person must remain upright to the extent for about an hour. This helps to prevent reflux, food traveling up toward the mouth.
The use of the bolus tube is not unusual, nor is it particularly difficult. Many adults who use one for nutrition are able to feed. The main concern is the cleanliness of the hands and equipment and monitoring of problems such as signs of infection, tube that has been pulled or inability to get food into the stomach over Bolusovou tube. The bolus tube will often be removed as soon as the person recovers from the problem that the tube was necessary in the first place.
