What is smartpill?
Smartpill® is a medical device designed for use in gastric motility evaluation. Patients swallow the pill and the pill wirelessly connects to the receiver and transmit data from the body. SmartPill® is a less invasive alternative to endoscopy, another technique that can be used to assess the health of the digestive tract. After the patients take the pill, they can freely engage in normal activities and in fact encourage the pill to provide realistic data. The pill is designed to create a complete picture of how long the patient takes to spend something and how much time he spends food in different stomach and intestines. This information may be decisive for understanding the patient's condition.
If a doctor feels that SmartPill® would be a useful diagnostic tool for the patient, he administers a pill in the office and provides a receiver to the patient. Patients can take receivers on belts or wear them on cords and can also take them off to activities like swimming if they come upThe cat stays within five feet (about one and a half meters) of the patient. Within two days, the patient should naturally go through SmartPill® and the receiver can be brought back to the doctor.
The doctor takes information from the receiver and operates it through a specialized software designed by SmartPill Corporation. The software processes the basic data on the motility of the stomach along with the temperature, pressure and pH readings and pH from the digestive tract, allowing the physician to learn more about the patient's condition and develop an effective NT treatment for gastroenterological problems such as gastroparesis.
The term "intelligent pill" is also used to describe a pill that has been designed to release medicines in a precise place in the gastrointestinal tract, ensuring that the drug is delivered to an ideally targeted area. Since the 90s, several designs of smart pills have been floating around the medical community. Some people also refer to pills to improve the cognitive function as INteligent pills, although the effectiveness of these products is doubtful.
