What Is a Thyroplasty?

Thyroid cartilageplasty type opens a window on the thyroid cartilage plate, and the inward movement of the vocal cords through the window is an important method for treating unilateral recurrent laryngeal nerve palsy. As early as 1915, Payr first made a horizontal "U" incision in the thyroid cartilage plate to make a pedicle of the cartilage flap in front, pushing the cartilage flap inward to move the vocal cords inward (Figure 9.6.4.2. 1.4-1). However, due to the pedicle of the cartilage flap, the inward movement is limited, and it cannot be promoted. In 1942, Seiffert cut a small piece of cartilage from the rib cartilage of a fresh corpse and placed it. The rhyroplasty type of thyroid cartilage opening and vocal cord internalization (Rhyroplasty type ) was the type of thyroid cartilageplasty. After that, this technique was widely used at home and abroad, and achieved good results. Some authors have made some improvements to the technique, but the basic technique has not changed [1] .
