What is an orthopedic cast?

Orthopedic cast is only a cast made traditionally made of cotton bandages soaked in Paris. Within minutes, the bandages solidify and form a protective layer around the damaged area, usually a broken or poorly sprained bone. Sometimes bones are reset before placing the orthopedic cast. The occupancy function will then hold the bones in place to heal.

Orthopedic cast has been used since the 18th century. During the Crimean War, other materials were used to set broken bones to stiffen into the cast. The initial orthopedic cast has not always been comfortable or useful because the plaster Paris tends to expand when it dries. If it is inappropriately applied, it could create such a tight cast that the blood circulation was interrupted into the damaged area. Although it rarely caused a turnstile effect, it could postpone healing instead of promoting it. People with orthopedic cast are sensitive to skin infections or irritation and have a restriction associated with wornOrthopedic cast. For example, it is not possible to take a shower or bathe with this type of cast and is quite heavy.

To solve problems associated with orthopedic casting of plaster, most doctors instead switched to casting from glass fibers. Casting of glass fibers is significantly lighter and the login takes less time. However, skin irritation may still occur, in fact rather glass fiber. Furthermore, the fiber glass tends to provide a slightly less comfortable cast. One can still ask for a gypsum cast that can be provided if the doctor has materials.

In the orthopedic cast of glass fibers, there were some improvements. The lining called Procel can cause glass castings completely waterproof. This can be useful for those who must be regularly exposed to water. It is more translations and not all insurance will cover the fee.

instead of using an orthopedic cast sometimes the doctor decides to use a removable plate or orthosis for certain types of broken or injured bones. They have the advantage of allowing to remove a quick shower or easily broadcast the skin. Those with chronic skin conditions may prefer them because it is possible to apply cream or ointment to the skin before deploying the strut back.
