Possible benzoic acid is a degradation product of benzoyl peroxide.
Carcinogenicity, mutagenicity, and effects on fertility: Some studies in germline mice have shown that benzoyl peroxide is most likely to be carcinogenic, indicating that benzoyl peroxide may be a cancer promoter. The impact of these findings on humans has not been clinically significant. Mutagenicity of benzoyl peroxide has not been found (Ames test), and published reports have not seen it affect fertility.

Allergic contact dermatitis and dryness may occur during topical benzoyl peroxide treatment.
Overdose: If there is a large amount of desquamation, erythema and edema, the drug should be discontinued immediately and treated by cold pressing to quickly reduce side effects. If this symptom is caused by overdose rather than allergies, you can continue taking the medication after the symptoms have subsided, taking care to reduce the dose.
Wash the affected area with mild soap and water, and apply it once or twice a day.
