Pimozide pharmacological action
- This product is a diphenylbuteridine antipsychotic. The effect is similar to that of haloperidol, but the effect is weak and long, requiring oral administration only once a day. It has good effects on mania, hallucinations, delusions, apathy, and withdrawal, and is especially suitable for patients with chronic withdrawal. This product also has a certain degree of calcium antagonism.
- Pharmacokinetics
- After oral administration of this product, about half of the amount can be absorbed for obvious first-pass metabolism. The blood drug peak can be reached from 4 to 12 hours, and the terminal t 1/2 is close to 55 hours. In some patients, it can even reach 150 hours. Widely distributed throughout the body, most of which are stored in the liver, and the concentration of other tissues and organs is relatively low. After being metabolized in the liver, it is excreted in urine and feces with metabolites and original drugs.

Pimozite notes
- See: Penfluridol. (1) Patients with liver and kidney dysfunction should be used with caution. (2) Liver function and white blood cell count should be checked regularly. It is not advisable to drive vehicles, operate machinery or work at height during medication.
Pimozide adverse reactions
- 1. Extrapyramidal reactions are extremely common. Other adverse reactions may include dry mouth, weakness, and insomnia. 2. Electrocardiogram abnormalities can occur during medication, such as prolonged QT interval and T wave changes.
Pimozide dosage
- 1. Treatment of schizophrenia: start oral 2mg per day, and then increase 2 to 4mg per day at least 1 week apart according to the effect, but the total daily amount should not exceed 20mg per day. 2. Treatment of paranoia and suspicion: Start oral 4mg daily, and then increase the amount, up to 16mg per day. 3. Treatment of Tourette syndrome: start oral 1-2mg per day, gradually increase the amount, up to 10mg per day [2] .
