What is ranitidine?
Rannitidine, which can be more recognizable by one of its brands, Zantac®, is a drug designed to treat stomach disorders of many types, including ulcers, gastrointestinal reflux disease and chronic digestion. In these cases it is effective because it reduces gastric acid production. This can help treat the gastric lesions, such as ulcers, or it can prevent the erosion of the lining of the gastrointestinal tract while alleviating unpleasant symptoms such as heartburn. Depending on the region, ranitidine may be available at a counter or prescription, can be supplied in various strengths and is available as a liquid, pill or as injection or intravenous medicine.
Drugs such as Ranitidine belong to the group of special antihistamines called H2 receptor antagonists. Normally, H2 receptors in the gastrointestinal system are stimulated by the presence of histamine that binds to them. When these receptors and histamine meet, the body creates a census stomach acidA. Rannitidine and other medicines prevent these meetings, so histamine cannot be tied to the receptors and the signal is not sent to form another acid. This helps to reduce overall acid and solutions to some of the above conditions.
Since Zantac® is available at a counter in many locations, people do not have to pay attention to a strong warning associated with this medicine. In pregnancy it should never be used and may cause the risk of breastfeeding children if the mother takes it. It is not recommended for people with liver or kidney conditions. Those with any blood disorders called porphyria are strongly warned to avoid this drug. Patients are also recommended to obtain a diagnosis before using ranitidine, as symptoms of things like acid reflux may be similar to more serious diseases such as stomach cancer.
There are many drugs that have a conflict with ranitidine. Between them jSOURs that treat diverse variety of disorders such as AIDS, blood states, sleep or anxiety disorders, cancer, peptic ulcers and fungal infections. When patients talk to the doctor about the use of Zantac®, they should be sure to include a list of all medicines used and mention all drug allergies. This can reduce the potential for negative interactions.
