What are Calico cats?

Calico Cats are cats with a distinctive three -colored coat pattern in which white, black and orange fur are present in large spots. In addition, Calico cats may also have stains of chocolate, cinnamon, ginger, cream or gray fur. These cats differ from joke or tortie cats with a lot of white in their hair: Calico Cat has a lot of white, especially around the chest and legs, while the turtles have beliefs in their hair, which may look almost muddy. Rather, it is the color of the coat and it is the result of an interesting genetic trick. The color of the coat in cats is what is called sex -related property, which means that alleles that code coat are found on sex chromosomes. The alleles that code orange and black coat are found on the x-chromosome, with orange dominant and black recessive. In Calico cats, both alleles are expressed at the same time, through the Called X-Infravation process, in which alleles are randomly turned off in some areas of the body.

In order to be calico, the cat must have two x-chromosomes. This means that the vast majority of Calico cats are women, except XXY men who are quite unusual (and sterile). However, Kalicos women are absolutely fertile, although they do not necessarily pass on Calico. Their male kittens can be orange or black, depending on which x-chromosome goes on and female kittens may develop on calicos, or may not, depending on the genetic role of cubes.

The next time you look at Calico cat, you can think about this fascinating example of genetic heritage. If the cat is close enough to touch it, you can say goodbye to the fur around the stains and noticed that the skin also changes color; Changes of skin color are often particularly obvious around the nose and on the ears where it is easy to see the skin.

The remarkable appearance of Calico cats has captivated people for centuries. One pThe cat's ribbon, the Japanese bobtail, is specifically bred to bring the colorful pattern of Calico and many cultures consider Calico the cat as happiness. Calico cats were often used as boat cats, because people believed that the ship could not sink with Kalin on board, and some people also thought Calicos brought happiness.
