What are flea beetles?
Beetle is a term used to describe the type of small beetle, which is often like garden pests. Unlike other species in the Beetle Beetle family, these are jumpers moving from the plant to the plant and chewing small holes. Swarm of flea beetles can cause extensive damage to some vegetable crops, especially new plants.
Adult flea beetles often plunge into the soil until spring. After the temperature is correct, it appears and feeds. Shortly thereafter, female beetles will lay eggs near the base of the plant. In general, the larvae that appear does not cause much damage. The exception of this rule is the tuber of the flea beetle, whose larvae chews the roots of many underground vegetables, especially potatoes. Most species will not grow to more than 1/8 inches many times (3.17 millimeters). While some of them are ordinary black or brown, others have a pattern or their cades like stripes. Some may even be attractive shimmering, metal blue, silver or green shade. Their large backThe legs allow them to jump long distances, just like flea.
Beetles are not always considered garden pests, because sometimes weeds or other undesirable plants will consume. Many species of flea beetles usually prefer certain types of plants, especially plants of plants. An example of this is the cabbage beetle, which feeds primarily on cabbage, is an example. Many times just an adult beetle is responsible for damage to plants.
Evidence of flea beetles can often be clearly seen on plants. These beetles will chew small holes in the leaves. This is sometimes referred to as holding shots because damage is strongly similar to damage to buckshot damage by shotgun.
Although a serious infestation of the beetle can cause older plants to bother or die, younger newly introduced plants are the most susceptible to beetle damage. Crops that are grown for their leaves such as salad or cabbageIt can happen after attacking flea.
Farmers and gardeners can prevent extensive flea beetle damage by carefully monitoring their plants. Any visible beetles should be removed. If there are more than a few beetles on each plant, other methods should be considered to get rid of flea beetles.
Cropsare one way to control the infestation of flea beetle. Planting a crop that is attractive for these beetles, such as radishes, can sometimes cause flea beetles to feed on them instead of the main crop. The crop of the trap is usually planted at a certain distance from the normal crop to lure beetles away. If the crop method does not work, pesticides may be necessary.
