What are Noren?

Noren are traditional fabric curtains that play an important role in Japanese history and culture. These curtains go back to Japan Jomon, which has been stretched from 12,000 BC to 300 BC. In antiquity, Noren was used to protect temples and residences from external elements such as dust, rain and sunlight. They also provided a sense of privacy both at home and in Japanese public spa houses. Today, Noren plays a functional and aesthetic role in Japanese homes and businesses.

In the interior, these fabric curtains are often used to separate two rooms or to divide a large space into smaller parts. It also serves as window coverings or curtains and can be hung in front of the door to allow some air and light while still maintaining a sense of privacy. Noren can also be hung on the wall as a decorative and historical focus in the room.

Hijstorically businesses used Noren to indicatewhether the trade was open or closed. Every morning, farmers of shops over doors or windows hang up and inform the shoppers that the shop is open. In the evening, the curtains are dropped and folded away so that customers can say that the shop is closed for a day. While some trades still use these substances in this way, they are more often used to display ad or as a nod to Japanese culture. Noren also helps keep dust and dirt on the street while allowing customers to look at the outside store.

These substances usually have a square or rectangular shape and come in many lengths to meet the needs of different applications. Half of the noren covers only the upper part of the door or window, while the fabrics with the length of the Noren are extra long and go far beyond the length of the standard door. Each of these fabrics is cut along the entire length to facilitate input or end.

Traditional Noren Feavyty creates white and cobalt blue design that is still located on many modern weavingpurple. Today, these curtains often contain traditional Japanese patterns, including geisha, temples or Japanese figures. Some also include religious or zen images such as a brush circle. Others have scenes of nature or flowers, water and other natural images. They can be woven from different materials, including cannabis, laundry, cotton or other fabrics.
