What are silverfish?

Silverfish are types of Fishmoth lepism Saccharina . This eighth -legged insect has a scale on the body that allows them to move in a quick and curved way that resembles fish. They have silver or gray color, but some also have brownish cast. Most of them are between 0.5 inches (12.7 mm) to 1 inch (25.4 mm) in length and have very long antennas as well as three fiber replacements from their lower bodies. Silverfish lives outside in damp, rocky or moldy areas, but easy to do inside in damp rooms such as bathrooms and are considered urban pests.

This insect was originally from tropical climate before spreading to a wetter, cooler area. The female laid up to 50 eggs at once, but only about 100 eggs laid during their lifetime. The life of silver fish is generally between two and eight years. They have soft bodies and are without wings. Silverfish can rise harsh surfaces, but not usually slippery surfaces and as a result they are found to be capturedo in sinks and baths.

Households, silver fish tend to live behind the base plates around the floors or near plumbing and pipes in small cracks. In addition to bathrooms and sometimes kitchens or cabinets you will find Silverfish in climbing areas and attic. Their eggs often occur in boxes of old clothing and books when silver fish eat starch in fabrics and a paste for a book. They are night insects and often prefer dark areas.

Vacuum often, especially around the motherboards, can help control the spread of silver fish in the house as it can eliminate small eggs. Cracks and slots around the base plates should often be washed and dust to reduce the population. Killing their eggs and removing their food sources is the best ways to control them.

traps can also be inserted into areas where silver fish were seen. A person creates a trap by covering a small, open containerswith a masker or other relatively harsh texty tape. Insects will be able to climb into the container, but not again because of the slippery surface of the inner glass. As a trap for silver fish, humid newspapers can serve in hollow shape.

DIATOMACEOUS EARTH, a powder composed of crushed algae similar to organisms called diatoms, is found in many pesticides, but is not harmful to the environment and is not toxic to humans and pets. Home owners can cheaply buy a DIATOMACEOUS country in bags in garden centers and sprinkle it around the motherboards where they saw silver fish. People should wear a protective mask when working with powder, because any dust substance can irritate eyes and nose when it is not yet seated.
