What are skin mites?

There are several different types of skin mites that can attack people for different reasons. Some cause serious symptoms, including itching and inflammation, while others may not cause any noticeable symptoms at all. Among the three most common types of mites that affect people include mites of scabies, mites of human demodex and chiggers. Of the three, scabies generally cause the most serious problems, while demodex mites are usually the most harmful. There are also other mites who can rarely attack people, and many of them are often transmitted to the skin of people from their pets.

The mites are actually from the Arachnid family, which means they are closely related to spiders, ticks and scorpions. For the most part, mites are generally smaller than other members of the Arachnid family. Some of them are in fact too small to easily see them with the naked eye. Many experts suggest that the most difficult kind of mites that attack people are scabies. These mites are plunged into the skin of the human and lays eggs inside the tunnel. Skin mites are considered extremely contagious and can be handed over by touching someone else or even contact with beds.

chiggers are not considered as serious as scabies and are generally easier to deal with. These mites simply feed on the skin of people when they walk on the grass or in the forest. To feed on the skin, they use an acidic substance that causes severe itching inflammation. Chiggers generally do not suffer too long, so unlike scabies, it is difficult to get rid of.

Human mites of demodex live in the skin around the eyebrows and eyelashes of people. For most people, these mites actually do not cause any noticeable symptoms. When people have allergy to mites, they can have itching around their eyelids or eyebrows. People often get rid of them by washing the lids with substances that kill mites such as children's shampoo or special medicines. Many people have these skin mites without being aware that they are present.
