What are the different types of chameleons?

There are more 160 types of chameleons. Only a few of them are kept as pets, because many types of chameleons have demanding care requirements or cannot adapt to captivity. Regardless of the species, all chameleons have eyes that move independently and long tongues with sticky ends. These reptiles range in size from small specimens of 1.3 inches (3.3 cm) long to the species that grow to 30 inches (76.2 cm) long. The chameleons include the Chamaeleonidae family, which can be divided into six solely. This group includes those that are often maintained as pets such as an ordinary chameleon or chamaeleo chameleon; four corner chameleon, or chamaeleo quadricornus; and a wrapped chameleon, or chamaeleo calaptractus . Other of this group include Millers Giant Chameleon, or chamaeleo melleri, and chameleon with a flap or chamaeleo dilepsis. The smallest of all chameleons, leaf chameleon or brookEsia minimum, belongs to this group and grows only to 1.3 inches (3.3 cm) long. This chameleon has an engaging habit of playing dead if it is disturbed. The largest member of this subruncated is the armored chameleon or Brookesia of the pearmata, , which culminates on only 4 inches (10.2 cm) long. Several Brookesia chameleons are suitable as pets.

Most members of the Furcifer Chameleons are large. The largest of all chameleons is the chameleon oustal or furcifer oustal, , which can grow to 30 inches (76.2 cm) long. This group also includes one of the most popular types of chameleons, Panther Chameleon or furcifer pardalis. These reptiles are also relatively large, growing on 20 inches (50.8 cm) long.

The dwarves of the chameleons form the whole brady of Podvodin. Although these types of chameleons are called dwarf chameleons, most of them are greater than small Brookes.Members of this group include Zululand Dwarf Chameleon, or Bradypodian Nemorale, and Karoo Dwarf Chameleon or Bradypodian Karroicum. Members of the remaining hips of Chameleon, Rhampolean and Calumma are not suitable as pets and, like the bradypodian chameleons, are rarely captured.
