What is the bed frame?

Four legs, two in the head of the bed and two on the leg of the bed, lifted a rectangular set of shelves that provide a frame for a mattress on which it can rest. At the top of both legs at the foot of the bed is another board known as a footboard and over two legs in the head of the bed is a head plate. Some beds have an extension of the legs, known as beds, on both sides.

While the edges of the mattress are supported, in the middlewould sag under the weight of a person without this middle bar. For smaller mattresses such as twins or double size, the rod is not unnecessary, because the mattress is fully supported by shelves at the edges of the bed frame.
