What is carp?

Bighead Carp, also known to its scientific name Hypophthalmichthys nobilis , is a large freshwater fish that is originally from China. This is also commonly known under his Thai name, Tongsan and other common names such as noble fish, lake fish or spotted amur. There were some limits to introduce these fish into waterways and selling fish in certain areas such as Canada and the United States because they compete with food species against food.

Bighead Carp has a big head that is without weight. It also has a large toothless mouth with a protruding lower jaw. The eyes of the fish are low on their heads and are designed down. In general, these fish are silver or gray, sometimes with a black spot. In addition, these fish can grow relatively large. There were reports of fish that reached almost £ 100 (45.4 kg), although most of them grow only to about 40 pounds (18.1 kg).

Though Bighead Carp General Prefer Eat Zooplankton, they will eat another sourceDrawing food if zooplankton is not available. They are filter feeders, which means they are able to filter water through their gills. Using this filtering process, they only eat food that is small enough to fit through their feed filter, such as phytoplankton and zooplankton.

It is interesting that Bighead Carp was not introduced to the United States until the age of 70, when he was brought to Arkansas from China. The purpose of the introduction was to manage the growth of algae in freshwater ponds in the area. Unfortunately, this kind of carp was not able to be contained.

In less than ten years, after its introduction to the United States, there were records that indicate that these fish can be found in large rivers across the country. During the 90s, when the floods were more serious, many other bighead caps managed to escape ponds filled with algae. As a result, they headed to the Mississippi River Basin and quickly spread to MNOha big rivers like Mississippi and Missouri. When these fish are in the same water bodies as the native species, the native species usually do not survive. This type of carp tends to consume a large amount of food and forces other fish to die.

Some areas have strict laws that prohibit that Big Head Cap is introduced to local waters. In addition, some states in the United States and some provinces in Canada prohibit the sale of any living carp. Scientists are afraid that fish will reach other water bodies such as large lakes, and compete with native fish.
