What is Cheongsam?

Cheongsam is a Chinese dress for shaped forms that are also called mandarin dress in English and qipao in Mandarin Chinese. The word cheongsam is an English version of the canton pronunciation of Shanghaines on clothing, Zarzze , literally "long dress". Cheongsam was created in Shanghai in the 1920s. The dress is traditionally ankle length, with slots on the sides of the skirt, high collar and sleeves ending above the elbow. Cheongsams are produced in various materials, although perhaps the most traditional is brighter, embroidered silk.

Cheongsam invented in Shanghai is a modernized version of the traditional QIPAO, clothing worn by Chinese women since the 17th century. While the original QIPAO was wide and free, the version invented in the 1920s was located and cut high on the sides. The dress was first worn by socialities and courtesans and soon became extremely popular. In the 1950s Cheongsam Also were made in materials such as wool and toPR for women who are worn in the workplace. The dress also became a short popular in the West in the 1960s.

Although Cheongsam is very attractive clothing, it can also be quite unpleasant because of the high rigid collar and its tight shape. Traditionally, the dress is made of material that does not stretch, such as silk. As a result, Cheongsam is usually worn today only for formal opportunities. Sometimes they are also used as uniforms, such as hostesses in Chinese restaurants, flight attendants on Chinese airlines and students at some Chinese girls' schools.

Today there are many variations on Cheongsam, including two -piece versions, long -sleeved styles and sleeves, knees or shorter skirts and elastic materials. There is also a male version of Cheongsam, called Changsan, literally a "long shirt". As female variety, Changsan is usually worn today for a formal opportunityof the way. It is also equipped with a tall, rigid collar known as Mandarin's collar and is traditionally ankle length.
